What Affects the Cost of Home Care

Every care plan is different, so the cost reflects the support you actually need. The main factors are:
  • Visit length. A short visit suits a simple task such as a medication reminder. Longer visits give time for personal care, meals and company.

  • How often we visit. Anything from one visit a week to several visits a day.

  • Time of day. Early morning, evening and night visits may be charged at a different rate.

  • Weekends and bank holidays. These may carry a different rate.

  • The support involved. Some needs call for two carers at once or specialist training, which affects the cost.

  • Travel. [TRAVEL AND MILEAGE POLICY]

Our Rates

We do not publish a single price because no two care plans are the same. After your assessment, we give you a written quote that shows your visit times, what is included and the total cost, so there are no surprises.

Ways to Pay for Care at Home

Many families use more than one source of funding. Here is a general overview for people living in England. Rules can change, so always check the latest guidance or speak to your local council.
  • Paying for care yourself

If your savings or income are above the council's limit, or you prefer to arrange care privately, you pay us directly. You can still ask your council for a free needs assessment and advice.

  • Local authority funding

Your council's adult social care team can carry out a free care needs assessment. If you have eligible needs, a financial assessment (a means test) looks at your income and savings to work out what you should contribute. For care at home, the value of the home you live in is not counted.

  • Direct payments

If the council agrees to fund some or all of your care, you can ask for the money as direct payments. This lets you choose and arrange your own care, including with a provider such as Sunrise Total Care.

  • NHS Continuing Healthcare

If your needs are mainly health related, the NHS may fund your care in full. This is called NHS Continuing Healthcare. It is not means tested, and eligibility is decided by the NHS through an assessment, usually starting with a short screening checklist.

  • Attendance Allowance

A benefit for people over State Pension age who need help with personal care or supervision because of an illness or disability. It is not means tested and you can spend it however you choose, including on care. People under State Pension age may be able to claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP) instead.

  • Support for family carers

If you look after someone, you can ask your council for a free carer's assessment to find out what help is available to you.

This page is a general guide, not financial advice. For advice about your own situation, contact your local council or an independent financial adviser who specialises in care funding.
