Personal care in Bedfordshire
Personal Care at Home, With Dignity
Calm, respectful help with washing, dressing and the personal routines that start and end your day. Planned around how you like things done, in your own home.

What Is Personal Care?
Personal care is help with the private, everyday tasks that keep you clean, comfortable and feeling like yourself. It might be a hand getting in and out of the shower, help with buttons and shoes, or support to use the toilet safely.
Needing this kind of help can feel like a big step. Our role is to make it feel ordinary and unhurried. Your carer will ask before helping, explain what they are doing and leave you to do the parts you can manage yourself. Doors are closed, towels are ready and your privacy comes first.
Personal care is often part of a wider home care visit, alongside meals, medication reminders and a chat over a cup of tea.
Who Personal Care Helps
Mornings have become hard work.
Stiff joints or tiredness make washing and dressing slow and tiring.
Worried about the bath or shower.
A recent fall or wobble has made bathing feel risky without someone nearby.
Living with a long-term condition.
Arthritis, Parkinson's, a stroke or sight loss make personal routines harder to manage alone.
Family help is stretched.
A son, daughter or partner has been helping, but it no longer feels right or sustainable for them.
What Personal Care Can Include
- Help with washing, showering, bathing or a strip wash
- Getting dressed and undressed, including choosing clothes
- Hair care, shaving, oral care and denture care
- Applying creams and moisturiser to keep skin healthy
- Continence support and help using the toilet, with dignity
- Changing pads and bedding when needed
- Help getting up in the morning and ready for bed
- Medication reminders and support with prescribed medication as agreed in your care plan
- Noticing changes in skin, mood or mobility and letting family or professionals know, with your consent
What Personal Care Does Not Include
To keep everyone safe, our carers do not carry out nursing or clinical tasks. These include:
- Injections, wound dressings or catheter insertion
- Managing feeding tubes or oxygen without specific training and agreement
- Diagnosing health problems or changing medication doses
If you need clinical care, we can work alongside your GP or district nurses and will tell you honestly if your needs are beyond what we can safely provide.

Done Your Way, Every Time
Your routine. Shower or bath, morning or evening, the order you like to do things.
Your preferences. Whether you would prefer a male or female carer, the toiletries you use and how you like your hair.
Your culture and faith. Washing practices, modest dress or prayer times are respected and recorded in your care plan.
Your independence. We support you to do what you can, so personal care helps you keep your skills rather than lose them.
Your care plan is reviewed regularly and whenever your needs change.
